Welcome to the Paediatric Special Interest Group (PSIG) of the Australian Vascular Access Society! Children are not little adults, and the insertion and management of their vascular access devices require a specialist focus.
The mission and vision of our group will provide a dynamic and resourceful network for interdisciplinary clinicians interested in providing evidence-based, high quality paediatric vascular access insertion and management through innovation, collaboration and research.
Our aim is to preserve vascular access for paediatrics, through to adulthood. The vascular access management children receive will have a multi-faceted impact on their lives.
Our group targets all interdisciplinary clinicians involved in paediatric vascular access. This includes clinicians who lead advanced paediatric vascular access procedures at tertiary paediatric facilities, as well as those who only occasionally need to be involved in their management in remote and mixed adult / paediatric centres. Children requiring vascular access should have high quality, evidence-based practices, no matter where they are.
Email your interest today! With the combined expertise of this growing network, we will provide a resource that clinicians can refer questions and develop solutions to paediatric vascular access practice. Educational seminars and webinars linked to AVAS are in the development for 2017 and 2018. So far this year they have included:
- Ultrasound guidance workshop (Orange (NSW) and Perth (WA))
- Dedicated paediatric stream at the Australian Vascular Access Society’s 2017 Scientific Meeting in Perth
